What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback (NFB), is a form of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity, like electroencephalography (EEG), to teach self-regulation of brain function. Sensors are placed on the scalp and ear lobes to measure brain wave activity, and the measurements are displayed using video displays and sound.

You control a video game with your brain waves. When the game functions correctly, you are rewarded with sounds or points to reinforce your brain waves are functioning in the correct area of the brain that we want to target to re-wire and make new neuro-connections.

Neurofeedback specifically deals with brain activity to identify dysregulations in brain behavior. We know, through neuroscience, that  neuro-plasticity exists in the brain and with that, we can re-wire and make new neuro-connections to reduce symptoms.

Neurofeedback isn’t magic. It’s neuroscience. Your baseline results will help identify where, in your brain, the irregularities exist. Your brain is compartmentalized in such a way that specific areas are responsible for specific functions; knowing the location of the issue and the symptoms are critical to understanding how to treat the condition.

The disruption of neural pathways can be a result of anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, or physical damage- such as a concussion, or psychological damage- such as PTSD.  There may be areas of the brain that are under-active, over-active or a combination of both.

Neurofeebdback will help to make new neuro-connections to balance the brain activity to improve the symptoms, within 10-20 short sessions.
